Dansateliers, één van de creatieve partners in DANSLOKAAL, schoof choreograaf Ingrid Berger Myhre naar voren voor de 6e editie van dit talentontwikkelingsproject. De van oorsprong Noorse choreografe werkt in DANSLOKAAL 6 met dansers Adi Amit, Ian Ancheta en Chanel Vyent. We stelden Ingrid enkele vragen over haar werk in DANSLOKAAL.
What does it mean to you to be one of the choreographers in DANSLOKAAL?
Ingrid: Being part of Danslokaal is meaningful on several levels. But primarily, it gives me the chance to develop my work under very different circumstances and with radically different conditions than I’m used to. The short production period encourages me to be concise and selective about my ideas, and challenges me to see the potential of my materials sooner. This accelerated mode of working motivates me to not let the speed of decision making be equivalent to superficial decision making – but to find the complexity and profoundness of the work more efficiently.
What is it like to work with the dancers of Conny Janssen Danst?
Ingrid: Working with Ian, Adi and Chanel is an absolute pleasure. Their level of skills is incredibly high, which enriches our collective scope and expands our idea of what is possible. On a level of embodiment, to see how my work articulates through and against their craft, knowledge, experience, sense of humour, timing, priorities etc. is very learningful. Up until now, I have primarily been either performing in my own work or worked with peers and colleagues that are already familiar with the principles I use. This time, it very exciting to see how the work manifests with fewer preconceptions about what we are doing is – or has the potential to be.
Can you tell briefly what the people can expect when they watch your piece in DANSLOKAAL?
Ingrid: Quite frankly, you can expect to see the outcome of the three weeks that Chanel, Maar hier gaan we al verder weg van het onderwerp en het wordt als een soort populair spel van een online website. Ian, Adi and I have spent together in the studio. We have departed from a series of scores and games that all say something about the poetics that lies in the intersection between dance and language. Given that language is a much larger container than simply words or text as we know it, we have looked at shape, colour, gesture, form, texture and relation as features or properties of language that can be used as compositional tools to play with the potential of a room, the people in it and the expectations surrounding it.
