HUIS Conny Janssen Danst invites choreographers and movement artists to apply for a studio residency dedicated to research, experimentation, and artistic development. This residency offers space and time for artists to explore ideas, test processes, and deepen their practice in a supportive environment without the immediate pressure of producing a finished performance.
Selected artists will receive:
- 10 days of studio access across a 3-week period
- Time for research, creation, experimentation, and rehearsal
- Visibility and promotional support through our marketing and communication channels
- An informal studio presentation/open sharing at the end of the residency
- The opportunity to invite peers, collaborators, and audiences to experience and discuss the work
- A residency budget of €750 per artist
We welcome applications from choreographers working in contemporary dance, performance, and movement-based research at different stages of their careers. The residency is intended as a space for exploration. Projects may be at an early research
stage, in development, or approaching production.
Please note that resident artists will not work with dancers from our company as part of the residency. Artists who require performers or collaborators for their project are responsible for bringing and coordinating their own dancers and creative team.
Please note that accommodation and travel costs are not covered by the residency. Artists are responsible for arranging their own stay and transportation during the residency period.
Residency Periods
In season 2026/2027 we offer two residency periods, we are looking for 2 artists for each residency period.
- 21 September – 10 October 2026 (Deadline for application: Sunday July 5, 2026, check form below)
- 2 March – 8 April 2027 (Info & deadlines will be announced at the end of 2026)
Final Sharing
At the end of the residency, both selected artists will participate in a shared informal presentation/open studio.
- The sharing can take the form of a short performance, open rehearsal, lecture, demonstration, installation, conversation, or another format appropriate to the project.
- The final sharing will also include a short interview with the artists and an open conversation/Q&A with the audience. We see this moment as an opportunity to share artistic processes, exchange ideas, and learn together through dialogue and reflection.
- Each artists may present up to 20 minutes of material during the sharing.
- One technician will be present on the day of the presentation, to provide basic technical support and assist with a simple lighting setup.
- Artists are welcome to invite their own peers, collaborators, guests, and audience members to attend the sharing.
- The sharing is intended as an opportunity for exchange and dialogue rather than a finished production.
Community Engagement
As part of the residency, we invite selected artists to engage with the community at HUIS Conny Janssen Danst by sharing aspects of their artistic practice and knowledge.
Resident artists are asked to offer a movement class, a workshop, or an informal practice-sharing session.
This can take different forms depending on the artist’s background and approach, and may be open to dancers, students, emerging artists, or members of our community.
