“In Dynamic Phrasing we engage in dialogue with our own body by nourishing the diversity inherent to our nature and harnessing the inescapable power of gravity. This dialogue is strengthened through rigorous and multidimensional practice and a deep passion to experience movement. Dynamic Phrasing is a journey that leads us to the frontiers and limits of our bodies capacity for movement to reveal the roots and core of our being.
During the workshop on 19th of May we will journey through first three pillars of Dynamic Phrasing – a repetitive practice of moving the energy called the Loop. Followed by image and sensation-driven Movement Research, finishing with a session of Repertoire & Phrases. This will give you a feeling of what Dynamic Phrasing has to offer and how Maciej Kuźmiński works on a daily basis as a choreographer.”
What is Dynamic Phrasing?
Dynamic Phrasing is an original method of movement and composition under development by Maciej Kuźmiński since 2009. Its main goal is to create and use the flow of energy through the body, which through a variety of rhythms and shades of quality builds versatility as well as a ‘soft power’ in the dancer. Based on 5 pillars: I – the Loop, II – Movement Research, III – Phrases & Repertoire, IV – Floor Work & V – Task Basket re-composition, Dynamic Phrasing creates a complete language of expression, while allowing you to return to the joy and peace of movement.
Maciej Kuźmiński, as a Dynamic Phrasing teacher, taught at the invitation of leading contemporary dance conservatories in Europe, such as Codarts Rotterdam, ArtEZ in Arnhem, Trinity Laban in London, University of Kalgary in Canada, Belgrade Dance Instytute and PERA in Cyprus. He also conducted many workshops for professional companies, including the Polish Dance Theatre, Staatstheater Kassel, Landestheaterer Linz among others, and his own project-based Maciej Kuźmiński Company. Dynamic Phrasing is the main tool of creation and dancer’s training for Kuźmiński.
Bio
Maciej Kuźmiński, born in 1985, is a Polish choreographer, pedagogue and producer. His independent works form the repertoire of Maciej Kuźmiński Company.
He is the first Polish-born graduate from Rinity Laban Conservatory in London, where he completed the BA Dance Theater and MA Choreography studies, both with distinction.
Since 2014, Kuźmiński’s works have been presented over 300 times in 22 countries. The artist has won over thirty international awards and distinctions for his performances created for the Maciej Kuźmiński Company. Since 2009 Maciej, is developing an original method for movement and composition called Dynamic Phrasing, which is the base of his artistic work.
Since August 2023 Maciej Kuźmiński is based in Rotterdam.
