About the choreographers

Rutkay Ozpinar
Rutkay Özpinar (1991) is a Turkish/Dutch choreographer and dancer. As house choreographer at Korzo (The Hague), he started research in 2019 focused on Turkish folk dance and his goal was to let it influence his movement language. He found his authenticity in a spectrum of classical ballet, modern dance, hip-hop and Turkish folk dance. Rutkay is inspired by the essence of our existence that struggles to find peace in this world. Let it be loneliness, hedonism or the structure in which we live. There is always a certain restlessness within man that inspires him to create with these types of subjects. Instead of focusing more on literally expressing these subjects, Rutkay lets the cadence of the human body create shapes to express these feelings.

Marta & Kim
Marta and Kim are a Dutch/Norwegian duo that combines circus and dance. They immerse themselves in human contact, which forms the basis for their partner work. Body language is culturally determined, and at the same time universal. Their different backgrounds enable Marta & Kim to look through a different lens and search for a universal meaning in their work.

Marta Alstadsæter (Norway, 1990) and Kim-Jomi Fischer (Netherlands, 1985) have been working together as performers and makers since 2016. Kim trained as a performing dancer at Codarts. Before working with Marta, he danced with DV8, Ann van den Broek, Ivan Perez, Panama Pictures and Arch8, among others. Marta Alstadsæter (Norway, 1990) graduated from the Codarts circus training program in 2016.

Since 2017, the duo has been working under the wings of Dansateliers in Rotterdam. They also collaborate with Dansearena Nord and the Arctic Arts Festival, which gives them strong ties with Norway.

About the workshops

Rutkay Özpinar
Bellydance & liquid articulations: In this workshop choreographer Rutkay Özpinar shares his working method and movement language. He will start off with teaching belly dance. After this he will delve into the practice of delicate articulations of body parts. The workshop will in fact be a guided improvisation class: this will give the participant the space and freedom to apply Rutkay’s physical approach in his/her/x own way.

Marta & Kim
The work by Marta & Kim i characterised by combining techniques of partnering acrobatics and dance, often using principles of contact improvisation as a connective tissue. They aim to ‘decompose the trick’ and treat every part of the movement as equally important. They start the workshop with simple themes and keep building to bring the body in a sensitive and listening state. Marta & Kim will focus on transporting weight through our core and making ourselves available for being partnered. They will also offer some tools from basic partnering acrobatics and building human structures.
