About the choreographers

Remy Tilburg
In 2015, Remy Tilburg (1989) graduated at the Amsterdam University of Arts, majoring in Urban Contemporary (JMD). Since 2014, Remy has been a dancer at Conny Janssen Danst, where he evolved into one of the defining dancers. In 2021, during the choreography contest RIDCC, Remy received the NDT Partner Award for his duet Fifty-one/forty-nine with Emma Evelein. In that same year, he was awarded the Aanmoedigingsprijs [Incentive Prize] for his solo Cotton Mind which he created for the solo performance Monuments in Solitude by Conny Janssen Danst.

In addition to his choreography work, including music videos for artists such as Jeangu Macrooy, Remy established his own programme as a choreographer. By the name of IID he gives dance workshops with a focus on the development of the own identity.

Pedro Ricardo Henry
From an early age, the Cuban Pedro Ricardo Henry was inspired by his mother to study dance. After graduating at the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) in Havana, specializing in Contemporary Dance and Folklore Dances, he began his professional career at Danza Contemporánea de Cuba and the Ballet de la TV Cubana. In the Netherlands Pedro already danced with the ensembles of Sally Dance Company and Via Berlin, before he became a dancer at Conny Janssen Danst in 2022. In addition to dancing, Pedro gave dance lessons at various dance companies and dance schools.

Currently he is working on his own project together with Dutch artist Nicky van Cleef. The project ‘Cuba meet the Netherlands Dance’ was created to connect two continents, two countries, through dance, music and the own roots.

About the workshops

Workshop Remy Tilburg:

Creating dance gives Remy a sense of freedom. Remy sees that everyone has a personal relationship with the body. The development of one’s own identity is central to his work. During this workshop he will take you through his physical movement language and qualities with a focus on sharpness, resistance and fantasy.

During the workshop Remy teaches you a choreography with room for your own, individual interpretation. To enrich your own dance repertoire and identity with new experiences.

Workshop Pedro Ricardo Henry:

During his workshop, Pedro introduces you to Afro-contemporary dance, a fusion between Afro-Cuban and Cuban modern dance technique. The Afro-Cuban dance originated from the resistance culture of slaves who were transported to Cuba from different parts of Africa. Cuban modern dance technique was born thanks to the triumph of the Cuban revolution in 1959. The language of Afro-contemporary dance is in Pedro’s roots, identity and movement expression. For Pedro, it’s the way to preserve a legacy, a story that has faded over the years. Afro-contemporary dance makes him feel connected to his ancestors, as a connection between the present and the past. In his movement he seeks the right energy and spirituality.

Pedro looks for connection between the individual in relation to the energy of the space, the ground and the sound of the drums – through live music by percussionist Karel Ernesto Acosta. Pedro wants to enrich the individual: not only through movement, but also through the combination of body, soul and spirit. With attention to emotional release and the wish that everyone feels free to move.
