During VERS&GERS – from 13 to 30 June – young makers and established choreographers show their work in HUIS Conny Janssen Danst. Dancer and maker Dalton Jansen (Rotterdam, 1993) is one of them.
Dalton Jansen is certainly no stranger in HUIS Conny Janssen Danst: in the context of the Nieuwe Makersregeling, he created new work in 2020 for DANSLOKAAL 8, Dalton can often be found in the studio with workshops and rehearsals for his company Black Birds and is an Urban Contemporary teacher for open classes offered by Conny Janssen Danst.
About the maker
Dancer and choreographer Dalton Jansen (Rotterdam, 1993) graduated from Urban Contemporary (JMD) in Amsterdam in 2018. His choreographies combine both hip hop and contemporary dance. Dalton has won several awards in recent years (with The Double Collective – and in 2021 he founded his own dance company BLACK BIRDS.
In recent years he developed his own dance vocabulary under the wings of Conny Janssen Danst, DOX and Production House Theater Rotterdam (TR) as part of the new maker subsidy from the Performing Arts Fund NL.
In 2022 Dalton received the ” VSCD Jonge Zwaan 2022 “for creating the most impressive dance production for youth.
About Inner Self pt. 2
In 2020 Dalton created Inner Self pt. 1, for which he researched the animal aspect in humans. This year, for VERS&GERS, he created Inner Self pt. 2. The performance is about the relation between humans and technology. Are the dancers robots struggling with their human side? Or are they humans who sometimes forget they aren’t robots?
