Keren about her ‘Flying Low’ classes:
“During the classes we will practice elements that focus on our relationship with the floor. We will work with sliding, rolling, running, challenge verticality and experiment with new movement patterns.
Each class will start with a warm-up followed by floorwork elements, which will be integrated into dance phrases inspired by ‘flying low technique.’ We will explore how we can combine qualities of softness and precision, as we smoothly transition and dance through the different levels (i.e. floor, mid-level, standing). By working with the principles of the technique we can discover how we can use limitation as space to grow in. Once we become familiar with the patterns, we will work with different speeds, directions in space, add movement complexity and introduce soft acrobatics elements. Additionally to the technical work, we will keep our joy of moving and dancing together!”
It is recommended to bring long pants & a long sleeved shirt for protecting the skin when sliding / working with the floor.
About the ‘Flying Low’ technique
Invented and developed by David Zambranno, ‘Flying Low’ class focuses mainly on the dancer’s relationship with the floor. The class utilises simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed, and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the center and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centred state.
Bio
Keren Ben Shachar (Haifa, IL 1992) is a contemporary dancer and choreographer based in Copenhagen, DK. During and following her education at ArtEZ University of the Arts (NL) and The Maslool Training program (IL), she has worked with a variety of choreographers and artists, before co-founding Lazy Susan & Co. Her interest in floor work and improvisation has led her to participating in several month-long intensives of Flying Low/ Passing Through with the techniques’ inventor David Zambrano, supported by the Israeli Fund Mifal Hapais.
