During VERS&GERS – from 13 to 30 June – young makers and established choreographers show their work in HUIS Conny Janssen Danst. Dancer and maker Hiro Murata (Japan, 1997) is one of them.
About the maker
Hiro Murata is a dancer and choreographer from Kanagawa, Japan. He is trained in ballet, contemporary, hiphop, jazz in Japan. He moved to Europe in 2018 and then started as a dancer at Conny Janssen Danst.
As a maker, he recently made a piece “Flawsome” at the KAAPSE ZOMER (2021) in Conny Janssen Danst. His piece UKA (2018) won 2nd place in the Netherlands Choreography Competition in Haarlem. His piece Longing (2016) won 4th place at the Japan Grand Prix, Contemporary division.
A Silent Rattle is a new piece by Hiro Murata. The solo can be seen during week 2 and 3 of VERS&GERS. During the first week Pedro Ricardo Henry will dance the solo, while in the second week it’s Pommelien Van Hees’ turn. So when Hiro was creating the solo, he worked with two dancers instead of just one, which made the process extra special and inspiring for him.
Hiro: ‘The piece was generated by the exploration of the pure physicality in collaboration with the objects we have on stage. I refined those movements until they started to tell the narrative themselves. It reflects inner conflict between uncertainty of delusion and beauty of imagination.’
