Lea Ved
Choreographer DANSLOKAAL
Korzo, one of the creative partners in DANSLOKAAL, nominates choreographer Lea Ved for the fourteenth edition of the talent development project. In 2026 she will create new work with the dancers of Conny Janssen Danst.
Lea Ved (born 1991, Anaheim, USA) is quickly establishing herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary dance, creating work that captures the tensions and rhythms of life through a clear and expressive physical language.
Her practice is driven by a sharp sensitivity to both the natural world and the complexity of human experience. She builds compositions that bring together opposing forces – chaos and calm, disruption and harmony – revealing how they coexist. Through this, she seeks a direct and embodied understanding of what it means to live, where clarity and uncertainty are held at the same time.
Her creative process starts from the body. Working through improvisation, tasks, and movement scores, she invites instinct, responsiveness, and presence into the studio, allowing material to emerge through the dancers themselves.
Ved danced with Nederlands Dans Theater from 2018 to 2023, following earlier engagements with The Royal Swedish Ballet in Sweden and RUBBERBAND in Canada. These experiences continue to shape how she works and thinks as an artist.
Her choreographic voice is marked by a strong sense of atmosphere and a subtle, playful precision. The work resists fixed narratives, instead opening space for interpretation. Audiences are drawn into layered worlds where images and emotions shift and unfold – without the need for explanation.
Lea Ved has a rare ability to perceive the subtleties of everyday life and translate them into choreography that is both emotionally expressive and compositionally precise. As an artist she invites the audience to linger and to observe. Through her work, human-like themes become tangible in the language of contemporary dance.
