Iqbal Khawaja

Docent Ballet

Iqbal about his class:
“I give a classical class in the classical sense, mostly with a classical sense of English humour.
Enjoyment of the work is paramount. Technique is freedom. But the classes are adapted to the differing environments in terms of complexity and requirement. Previously I have very much enjoyed teaching the dancers and freelancers at Conny Janssen Danst  and I am looking forward to meeting the new generation.”

Iqbal was born in England, but is currently based in Amsterdam with his family. He studied in England and danced, amongst others, for the Israel Ballet, Hannover Staatsoper and retired as a dancer from Het National Ballet after nine years at the age of 37. Iqbal can still be found occasionally gracing the stage whilst performing as a character artist for the National Ballet. After quitting as a professional dancer, he embarked upon a teaching career and has worked as a classical ballet teacher/mentor/tutor/repetitor at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Codarts, Artez, HJS, Dansateliers, Dansetages, De Stilte and Scapino.
