OPEN HUIS 2026: open studio with four dance artists

HUIS Conny Janssen Danst, Rotterdam

Sat 29 Aug 2026

During the OPEN HUIS CONNY JANSSEN DANST on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, doors and curtains that normally remain closed will open between 12:00 and 17:00.

HUIS Conny Janssen Danst is not only the place where the performances of Conny Janssen Danst are created and presented. Here, creative talent is also given plenty of opportunities to work on development, signature, and research. During the Kaapse Kunstroute, you will see a variety of young dance makers working live in the studios at alternating times. We are happy to introduce them to you:

STUDIO 1 – LARA SZYMANSKI
Movement research: we should smell more

Lara Szymanski is a freelance dancer and performer based in Rotterdam. During this studio time, I’ll continue developing the movement research for my ongoing collaboration with Hinako Yukimoto, “we should smell more”. Inspired by ants and their invisible pheromone trails, the work reflects on the paths we inherit, the ones we create, and the traces we leave behind.

STUDIO 2 – THOMAS FAUC
Movement research – architecture, choral sound & history meet the human body

Thomas Fauc is a freelance dancer and choreographer who performed with the renowned company Conny Janssen Danst for the past two years. He is currently developing a new project set in a church, merging architecture, choral sound, history, and the human body. Through this work, he reveals a compelling tension: where lines crash into curves, sound strikes architecture, history clashes with time, and violence collides with faith.

STUDIO 1 –  REMY TILBURG
Open rehearsal new work ‘flamingo’

Remy Tilburg is a Surinamese dancer and choreographer based in Rotterdam and co-founder of IID Company with his partner Robin Kroes. He is known for his innovative, artistic and conceptual approach to dance, integrating fragmented movements with bold visual elements. He focuses on deconstructing shapes and foundations. Which requires musicality, imagination muscularity and fluidity.
During the OPEN HUIS Remy will rehearse with the IID dancers for his new work ‘Flamingo’, which will premiere 11-11 2026 in Theater Zuidplein.

STUDIO 2: ROBIN NIMANONG / ROBBEDUZ

Sat 29 August: Children of Zeus (Living Exhibition and performance)
For the performance Children of Zeus, queer dance maker and performer Robin Nimanong and visual artist Valentina Gal conducted research in 2025 during a residency at HUIS Conny Janssen Danst into creating a landscape of movement material and visual elements. This research focuses on the harmony between technology, humans, and nature, as well as queer ecology. Since then, the research has grown into a full-length performance that can be seen in the ’26/’27 season at Korzo Den Haag and Schuur Haarlem. During the OPEN HUIS, you can see Robin rehearsing and performing.

Sun 30 August: Queerness & dance
Robbeduz – the alias of Robin Nimanong – invites DOX CLUB alumni for a workshop on Queerness and dance. During this workshop, as a visitor of our OPEN HUIS, you will see a colorful collection of dancers working with Robbeduz, using a mix of contemporary, commercial, and ballroom/vogueing influences.
Are you a (semi-)professional dancer yourself? Feel free to watch and see if this is something for you!
