For DANSLOKAAL 12, our partner Korzo selected choreographer Sarada Sarita. She celebrates difference in her work as a dancer; specifically, to show the human experience in all its different colors and emotions. In this talent development project, Sarita works together with Conny Janssen Danst dancers Mattia Trematerra, Pedro Ricardo Henry and Gaia Salsi. We asked Sarita a few questions.
What does it mean to you to be one of the choreographers of DANSLOKAAL?
Sarita: It is a great experience to work as a choreographer in DANSLOKAAL. It gives me the opportunity to explore and elevate my research and creation process further. The process of DANSLOKAAL gives me the space to focus on that. It allows me to grow working with different types of trained dancers on a professional level. I feel like it is always an honor to share my process and work of art. I am very grateful to share this with multiple theater performances in the Netherlands!
What is it like to work with the dancers of Conny Janssen Danst?
Sarita: Working with Pedro, Mattia & Gaia from Conny Janssen Danst has been an absolute pleasure!
The connections were immediate and their different personalities complement each other perfectly. It is very important for me to connect and trust each other in the process and I could not ask for more. I am very grateful for this beautiful group of strong dancers and their hard and honest work. I am confident they will achieve an authentic expression and connection with themselves, each other and the audience.
As an artist I aspire to inspire, empower and build each other up through the language and symbolism of movement and music. Sarada Sarita
Can you briefly describe what people can expect when they come to see your work in DANSLOKAAL?
Sarida: I always choose a topic that I want to dive deep into and that can connect on a universal level (micro/macro), so I can play with perspectives. My starting point for DANSLOKAAL is edification or to edify: to morally or intellectually improve or instruct (someone). Coming from “edifice”, meaning to build. The opposite of corruption. What does it mean to build each other up? Why do we break each other down? And why is there corruption? As an artist I aspire to inspire, empower and build each other up through the language and symbolism of movement and music.
