From August 25 to September 7, choreographer and performer Adam Khazhmuradov returns to HUIS Conny Janssen Danst for his second residency. During this period, he is teaching Monday evening class Contemporary ánd he will continue to develop a duet in which dance, scenography, and sound design merge into a sensory experience.
Through the residency program, HUIS Conny Janssen Danst offers space to makers looking to deepen their artistic voice. Dance professionals are given the opportunity to develop their work in a professional context, with room for research, exchange, and experimentation. Adam is an inspiring example of this.
“I explore how dance can question our senses instead of controlling them. What if we are not the pilot of our sensations, but the passenger? In my work, humans and insects are intertwined as a metaphor for neurodiversity, identity, and collective behavior,” says Adam.
About the research: Fear as Orientation
In his duet, Adam aims to imagine a world where our deepest fears function not only as limitations, but also as guiding mechanisms. Inspired by dadaism, durrealism, and the philosophy of Erin Manning, he explores how sensory intensity, fluid identities, and collective structures manifest within the body.
Insects play a key role in this. Like humans, they move within systems and instinctively respond to threats.
“What if we no longer hide our fear, but use it as a compass?” Adam wonders.

About Adam Khazhmuradov
Adam began his dance career with street styles like hip-hop, house, and breakdance. He studied Urban Contemporary/Jazz Musical at the Amsterdam University of the Arts and danced with the Hofesh Shechter Company, Club Guy & Roni, and Dalton Jansen, among others. His roots in Kazakhstan and Guinea, his academic background in Belgium and the Netherlands, and his international experience as a dancer allow him to move between different worlds and constantly explore how art can break down these boundaries.
His work lies at the intersection of performance art, contemporary dance, and social engagement. As a choreographer, he explores how dance can question the senses, identity, and systems thinking.
Currently, Adam works as a freelance dancer and develops his own signature style as a choreographer through residencies, educational programs and multidisciplinary collaborations.
