About the choreographer

Charlie Skuy is a Canadian choreographer and artist based in the Netherlands. In 2018 he joined Nederlands Dans Theater and, while dancing full-time, created numerous works for the company’s choreographic platform. His work has won several awards, including the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. For his duet KEVIN, performed together with Emmitt Cawley, he won the Conny Janssen Danst Partner Award at the RIDCC 2023. Skuy later developed this duet into a group work for SWITCH ’24 (see video below).

Charlie has also directed and produced numerous dance films and was recently awarded CINEDANS ’23 (film/choreography). He was asked by Canada’s National Ballet School in 2017 to create for Assemble Internationale and in 2023, was commissioned to make a full-length work with three older dancers at Origen Festival (Switzerland). Charlie’s passion for filmmaking, dance theater, visual arts and dream logic (David Lynch) opens up different worlds and images in which he explores his relationship with fear, dissonance and aging.

About the workshop

In this workshop on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Charlie will take you through his rich movement language. His intuitive style is characterized by an explosion of movements. Fresh, humorous, extremely moving and full of unexpected twists. Fragments of movement material from his group work KEVIN are combined with phrases from his most recent choreography ‘MEISJE’, created in DANSLOKAAL 12 for Conny Janssen Danst. During the workshop you will work together towards a mini composition.
